             abstract = "The research analyzes the removal of native vegetation in two 
                         decades, the area of the Rio Preto Environmental Protection in 
                         Western Bahia, where agricultural production in recent years has 
                         been strong over the Cerrado biome, predominant in this region 
                         which has been replaced by grain as soybean, corn and sorghum. The 
                         role of APAs in this direction would be to promote constant 
                         actions to reduce the impacts caused by these activities however, 
                         the research demonstrates that this has not happened and shows the 
                         direction and magnitude of these changes in APA Rio Preto. To 
                         verify the degradation of the vegetation of the APA Rio Preto was 
                         used for TM / Landsat 5 images and their products, with the 
                         technique of Change Vector Analysis (CVA), from pairs of images in 
                         five years (1990 to 2010), the transformation of the images 
                         yielded the observation of landscape units, the loss and gain of 
                         vegetation in two decades. The results show changes in the native 
                         vegetation of the APA Rio Preto, mostly on its edge, the most 
                         preserved and occupied by small central areas. The technique for 
                         temporal pairs of images using the CVA showed good ability to 
                         verify the removal of vegetation.",
